中文摘要:佛教造像中所表现的供养人像不仅是制作和礼拜佛像的佛教信徒的形象,同时,作为皇帝的臣民、国家和社会的一员,也是他们想确立自我存在的一个形象。本文阐述了佛教造像这一宗教活动是被利用为向统治者和社会表达意志的一个"场所",供养人像的一个主要功能即是其表现手段。现存佛像当中并非都是中央地区精美的作品,也存在很多地方和民间制作的拙劣作品。这些作品虽然从美术史的角度评价较低,但实际上,作为向国家和社会传递意愿的一个纪念碑,具有很重要的意义。我们在佛教美术研究当中不能只从美术史的角度去研究,也有必要从社会史的角度去研究。
英文摘要:Images of donors holding offerings of flowers or incense burners are depicted on the pedestals and on the verso surfaces of Chinese Buddhist sculptures.These figures are worshippers wearing the layman garments typical of the period of the sculpture's creation.They are shown in offering or worship scenes,either offering flowers or water to a Buddhist image,or burning incense and praying.These donor images are not essential elements of Buddhist sculpture,as are Buddhas or Bodhisattvas.The author investigates examples of Buddhist donor images in Chinese Northern Wei dynasty sculptures,and posits that the donor figures depicted in Buddhist sculpture were thus faithful Buddhists worshipping the Buddha who reflected their self awareness in the temporal world as both vassals of the emperor and individual members of the nation and society.They used the religious activity of Buddhist sculpture commissions as the "place" for their expression of their thoughts towards their rulers and society,and the depiction of donor figures functioned as the expressive motif of such self-awareness.
