中文摘要:本文以华人传统戏剧在美国舞台上演百余年为背景,具体描述了京剧作为一种外来文化在异国他乡获得理解的过程和自我不断调整的处境。其中不仅包括性别问题,更有种族问题。本文试图指出,在全球化的今天,在面具化与变性论的京剧文化中传达中国文化和中国形象,虽为文化交流过渡时期之误解,但不失为推动京剧走上国际舞台的权宜之计。
英文摘要:Based on more than one hundred years’ history of Chinese traditional plays on the American stage, this paper describes concretely how Peking Opera as an alien culture won its recognition and underwent its self-regulation in a foreign country. The process consists of not only gender problems but also problems of race. The paper attempts to point out that, confronting the globalization today, to spread out the Chinese culture and Chinese images through the masks and gender-changing of Peking Opera is a convenient policy to promote it onto international stage though misunderstanding is inevitable in the period of cultural transition.
