英文摘要:Building-site Ⅳ of Shanglinyuan Garden lies to the south of Epanggong Village of Sanqiao Town in Weiyang District,Xi'an City,Shaanxi Province,to the northeast of Zhaojiapu Village and 500 m to the east of the anterior pavilion-site of Epanggong Palace. Within the site there remains a massive earthen platform on the ground. To investigate the date, nature and scale of the site, the Epanggong Archaeological Team carried out prospection and excavation there in April 2005 to December 2006.The platform is located a little to the west of the center of the site, and building foundations were discovered through prospection to its north, east and west. Archaeologists surveyed and excavated these"high-platform"building remains. The rammed-earth platform of Building-site Ⅳ is situated roughly a little west of the center of the whole site.Consisting of three tiers of structures superimposed one upon another,it is the hugest and highest in the ruined complex.30 m to it north,a spot of vestiges was found to be 240 m long from the west to the east and 118—148 m wide from the north to the south, covering an area of 28,320—35,520 sq m.In a depth of 9.5—1.3 m from the ground, prospection revealed about 1.6 m thick rammed-earth foundations of palace buildings. They are complex in structure and extensive in area, and yielded quantities of very course semi- cylindrical tiles with fine cord-marks on the obverse, pock pattern on the reverse, and distinct traces of ring-building on the whole body.62 m to the east of the platform,a group of building vestiges was discovered to be 85 m long from the west to the east and 21 m wide from the north to the south, occupying an area of 1,785 sq m.On the western side of the platform is a group of ruins measuring 122 m in length from the west to the east and 15—23 m in width from the north to the south, forming an area of 1,830 sq m.The archaeological data from Building-site Ⅳ further evidence that the site is a ruined high-platform building complex of the Warring States period. That is to say that Shanglinyuan Garden was already constructed in this age. Thus the research resolved the problem of whether the Garden existed in the Qin State capital Xianyang of the Warring States period and affirmed that the rammed-earth platform of Building-site Ⅳ is left over from a Warring States period"high- platform"building complex in the then prevalent style.
