英文摘要:The Shuibei site is located about 50 m to the south of Shuibei Village in Tandian Township of Binxian County, Shaanxi Province, lying on the first terrace above the northern bank of the Jinghe River. In June to November 2005, the archaeological team jointly organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology and the Xianyang Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out excavation on the site. In the revealed area of about 2,400 sq m they discovered ash-pits, house-foundations, kiln-sites and tombs of the mid and late Yangshao culture, burials of the Song, Yuan and Ming periods, and large quantities of pottery, stone and bone artifacts. The site is an extensively revealed prehistoric settlement and is rare among the same type of finding across the Jinghe River valley for the length of its duration, the density of its vestiges, the large scale and peculiar shape of its buildings and the great variety of its unearthed objects. The cultural aspect of the site is on the whole the same as that of the contemporary remains in the western Guanzhong region, though some elements present its own characteristics, such as the distinctive structure of house-foundations and kiln-sites, and the relatively high proportion of yellow ware pottery. As the remains of mid and late Yangshao culture so far discovered in the middle and lower Jingshui valley are rare, the excavation on the Shuibei site is of great significance to researching into the aspect of Yangshao culture in this region. Moreover, the revelation of the features of the site will contribute to furthering researches on the cultural exchange of this region with the upper Jingshui and Weishui valleys and the whole Beishan mountain area.
