英文摘要：A noted calligrapher, Xianyu Shu's life has remained largely unknown for a longtime The date and place of his birth and even his aliases are problematic. Basing himself onthe rich literal data, his calligraphic works and rlated stele inscriptions concerning the Xi-anyu since the Ming-Qing times, the author comes to the conlcusion that Xianyu Shu wasborn in A. D. 1246(the first reigning year of Emperor Dingzong of the Yuan dynasty or thesixth year of the Chunyou reign of the Southern Song dynasty), eleven years earlier thanthe widely accepted date. As for his birth place, it was not Yuyang as many believed, butYibo of old Qi or modern Liaocheng in. Shandong. Te author considers the reliability of thedata, and corrects some wrong views. For example, the frequently cited epitaph of XianyuGuangzu included in the Sanxitang anthology of calligraphy actually has nothing to do withSanxitang in the first place, but derived by a modern copier from the Qilamtang anthologyof calligraphy, and can be uaced back to an incomplete rubing of an epitaph. His studies ofall these intricate problems help to clarify the life of Xianyu Shu.
