From the vantage points of the migration of nationality and the propagation of culture, the author demonstrates that the English word “China” was originated from the name of the Qin State in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 476 B.C) rather than from that of the Qin Dynasty (221 207 B.C.). The Sankritic words “Cina” and “Chinasthana” were borrowed from Persian word “Chin” which had been the transliteration of “Qin” and “Qin State”, and then they were transliterated from Sankrit into English as “China”. English word “Cathay”was transliterated from Arabic word “Khattay”, which had been borrowed from “khyattan” in turki and originally from “khyattan” as the name of the state in North China (also known as the liao Dynasty) since 10th to 13th century.
