英文摘要:Shiban Village lies 3.5km east of the seat of Cili County and 1.5km west of the Baigong City site of the Warring States period. Here,at Yejiatu and Zhujiatu,a ceme- tery was excavated in 1987 on a long narrow loess hill stretching from north to south and measuring about 5 and 1 km in length and width respectively. The work resulted in the revelation of 18 tombs of the Warring States period, which yielded more than 250 pottery, bronze and lacquered wooden funeral objects and above 4300 broken bamboo slips with inscriptions. The tombs fall into three phases:Phase Ⅰbeing represented only by one tomb and belonging to the early stage of the Warring States period;Phase Ⅱ,by 15 tombs,to its earlier middle stage;and Phase Ⅲ,by two tombs,to its later late stage and maybe covering the Qin period and even the earlier Western Han.The inscribed bamboo slips are the earliest in date and largest in number among the finds of that sort from the Chu tombs so far excavated. The main contents are records on historical events, which is the first discovery in search of ancient inscriptions. These valuable new data are still in systematization at present. The Shiban cemetery is an important burial ground of the Chu State excavated recently in Hunan Province.Although the work didn't cover a large area, the funeral objects especially weapons and inscribed bamboo slips unearthed in a rather great number and variety provide important evidence for the study of history and culture in this re- gion as well as of the Chu culture in whole.
