700 years have passed away as the days and nights followed one another. The regret from those years left us with a fine example of comprehensive steps and techniques in the creation of the inscriptions on the precipices during the Song dynasty. This is rare in the inscriptions on the precipices. From the extant vestiges of "Ten great Vidyarajas ", we have a general knowledge of the steps in the creation by the sculptors of the Song dynasty: 1. Volume generalization of the entire sculpture, 2. A progressive analysis of the structures and forms and breakthrough at the main points, 3. Making choices in the surface treatment and refinemenl before the further carving. If the main features of the Western sculpture at the early stage is to put relatively more emphasis on the harmony and an authentic reproduction of the natural shape in dealing with the head, then the clear-cut characteristics of the ancient Chinese sculpture is to attach more importance to the artistic exaggeration and expressions.Since Buddhism was introduced into China during the Wei and Han dynasties, the art of the Buddhist statue has become a unique traditional art of our country throughout thousands of years of development and unique techniques of expression and national style have come into being. The outstanding features of expressing the ideas in the forms imply the profound connotations of national culture and the abundance and profundity of the Eastern philosophy. The statues in the grottos at the early period of Wei, Jin and SouthNorth dynasties retained more influences from the Buddhist culture and the pronounced religious colours. During the Tang and Song dynasties, the folk statues all over the South and the North became more secular. Dafowan Bay, Mount Baoding~'" being a site of fo/k statues and far from the royal capital, the secularized features were much more obvious. The Buddhist "ritual rules" regulated the dignified gestures of every Buddha and Bodhisattva. but the sculptors called as "craftsman" created statues in a fashionable way so that the spirit reflected in many of these statues was quite from the original ideas of Buddhism. For example: "Chick Feeder". "Fluting Girl Who fluted", "Cow Herding".
