英文摘要：In December of 1995, a Ming dynasty basement was found right below the chamber of the pagoda in question. Of some sixty relics unearthed, there are minor iron pagoda, minor silver pagoda containing Buddha's remains, Buddhist icon, silver tripod, glazedhigh-stemmed burner, stone bowl, jade belt accessories, a variety of ornaments made ofcrystal, agate, lazurite and so on. Judging by its current situation, the unearthed relics andtextual data, the pagoda was built after the first year of the Tianshun reign period of theMing dynasty(1457), a period of Buddhist prosperity. Many small relics seem to be dona-tions from pilgrims at grassroots level, some of them even coming from the Suzhou prefec-ture one hundred li away. The Asoka iron pagoda with epochal and local colors was foundfor the first time in shanghai area.
