中文摘要：明清通俗小说兼为精神产品与文化商品，负责传播的书坊主干 预创作的“熊大木现象”，是这种双重品格必然的外在表现，平庸之作叠出也 相应地构成小说创作演进的重要环节。本文通过具体作品及流派盛衰的分析， 介绍各历史时期该现象形态及其对小说发展的正、负面影响，指出小说研究不 能只囿于文本，勾勒与解释其发展轨迹须从“创作─传播—创作”整个循环 过程着眼。“熊大木现象”今日依然存在，因而本研究于现实也有积极的意义。

英文摘要：On the basis of Xiong Damu's practice (the bookseller's intervention in the making and spread of popular novels), the author studied the different patterns of spread of ancient popular novel and its positive and negative effect. Acccording to the author, the study of novel should not be confined to the text itself, but be seen from the circle of "creation- spread-creation".
