英文摘要：The designs on the bronzes of the Yin Ruins were not only for decoration, but also possessed peculiar function in the Shang people' s mind. Evidently they were made with certain directionality, and their front was just that of the ritual bronzes. At sacrificial ceremonies, ritual bronzes were not put at will but disposed according to the requirement of observing a certain direction, which was conformable to that of the designs. Only in this condition could the designs and their mysterious connotations be shown to the worshippers as fully as possible. Therefore, the clarification of the direction of the designs on the bronzes of the Yin Ruins is of great importance to the revelation of the social meanings hidden in the Shang bronzes.
