英文摘要:The Baihewan cemetery of the Chu State lies on the south bank of the Youshui River, about 15 km from the seat of Guzhang County, which is in western Hunan Province and under the jurisdiction of the Xiangxi Autonomous Region of the Tujia and Miao Nationalities.Sixty four Chu State tombs of the Warring States Period have been excavated at the place and they are all vertical pits. All the coffins and human skeletons in the tombs have decayed beyond recognition. According to their shapes, these tombs can be divided into three types: the tomb with a head niche, the tomb with slope passage and the tomb withou both of the adjuncts. The funerary objects unearthed include articles made of pottery, bronze or iron. The pottery set mainly consists of the concave-bottomed jar with cord impressions, the bo-bowl and the dou-high-stemmed vessel, or the ding-tripod, the dun-semispherieal vessel with a lid in the same shape (or dou instead) and the jar with ring foot. In some of the tombs, the pottery objects do not form any set. In a very few tombs, there are rare gui-like vessels. The ding, dun and ring-footed jar are imitations of bronze ritual vessels. They are largely painted in vermilion and yellow. In some cases, the handle, knob and foot are tenoned into sockets on the body.No bronze containers have been unearthed from these tombs but there are many bronze weapons, chiefly the double-edged sword, the spear and the ge-dagger-axe. Besides common types of the Chu State, the willow-leaf shaped sword and the multi-ringed spear, both of the Batype, have been found. It is remarkable that a Chu-type ge is decorated with tiger stripe patterns and engraved with in scriptions, among which there is the date of "fifth year'. In addition, there are two seals bearing characters and two Ba-tyipe ones bearing a realistic figure of the tiger. As for the bronze mirror, only two pieces have been unearthed. The iron objects unearthed are of two kinds: weapons and production tools. The terminus post quem of the time of the tombs is in the early days of the Warring;states Period and the terminous ante quem, in the middle of the Period.
