英文摘要:A Warring States tomb was discovered at about 100 m east of the Gaozhuang Village, around 10 km southwest to Huaiyin City, on the southern bank of old course of the Huanghe River in the spring of 1978 and was excavated in the same season. The tomb is an earth pit with a wooden structure in it and without mounds on the ground. Its opening is beneath the top layer of sandy earth. The pit is rectangular in plane with the opening larger than the bottom. On three walls of the pit there are 'second level platforms'. Thedirection of the pit rectangle is 105°. The pit opening is 10.5 m long and 9 m wide and the bottom is at a depth of 3.9 m. The wooden structure is in the northeastern part of the pit, also retangular in form, measuring 5.7 m long, 3.7 m wide and 2.1m high. It is further partitioned into three coffin chambers and a foot box. Beneath the wooden structure there is a waist pit with the skeleton. of a funeral dog. The wooden structure is enclosed and covered with white clay. Two holes left from an early robbery have been discovered in the southwestern corner of the pit and in the structure. Funeral objects are placed mainly on the southern side of the pit, some of them have been disturbed by the robbery. The skeletons of 14 individuals are found outside the main coffin, they" are believed as the remains of human victims.Over 290 pieces of funeral objects are left from the robbery, including pottery, primitive porcelain, bronzes and jade and stone articles. There is a primitive porcelain censer with a most unusual form. There are 20 bronzes engraved with diaglyphs-towers and pavilions, figures in feasting and drinking parties, mountains, forests, trees and flowers, birds and beasts, gods, goddesses. and monsters, etc. The bronze models of carriages and horses exquisitely made and profuely decorated with elaborate engravings are really rare treasures. The structure of the tomb and the relics unearthed from it show that it is possibly a Chu, State grave and might be dated back to the middle Warring States period. The discovery provides important data for studying funeral customs, bronze metallurgical and casting technology and social manners of the time.
