中文摘要："拂菻"是隋唐时代中国对拜占庭帝国的称呼。唐代拜占庭帝国曾数次遣使中国。唐代以后,中国与拜占庭帝国实际上已无外交往来,但《宋书》和《明史》仍在"拂菻"名义下保留了所谓官方遣使的记录。实际上,《宋书》的"拂菻"已不是拜占庭帝国,而是占据了拜占庭帝国在小亚细亚领土的塞尔柱突厥人;《明史》中的使节乃商人,并非官方使节。

英文摘要：In the post-Tang period,several embassies to China were recorded in Chinese sources under the name of Fu-lin,which is designation of the Chinese in the Sui and Tang Dynasties for the Byzantine Empire. The name Fu-lin did not refer to the Byzantine Empire,but the Rūm Sultānate of the Seljuks who had occupied the Asia Minor,and the embassies were dispatched by the Seljuks.
